Langley -- Draft

Jeremy provided the catalyst to go to Langley.  3 other boats headed the call, including 'Cambria'.  Rubigale was going to go, but with NOAA forecasting small craft warnings, Dana bailed.  She'd been at the mercy of mother nature a couple of times and had projects she could do at the dock.
We headed out early and beat the front that swept over Seattle.  Jeremy saw some lightening strikes and decided he'd take his tall aluminum tree and hide in a forest of trees.  He ducked into Kingston to reduce the odds of being hit by lightening.
We were up in Langley by that time and neither saw nor heard the storm.  Which is a very good thing.
Frog Prints came in and missed their first approach into a very tight docking situation.  I clambered aboard thinking I could land the boat -- but ended up doing EXACTLY the same thing Dana (the other Dana) did.  We both swung a little wide and given the confines of the marina, were unable to make the pivot to the dock.  So much for good intentions!  With improvised bow thrusters (Drew on the dock grabbing and pushing the bow) it finally worked.  Whew!!
Upon arriving, Leigh went for a run and I went for a good stiff walk (yeah, I need to work on that).

After the exercise, we went up town to do some shopping.  We got some little serving spoons, some little serving bowls and a silver platter.  We were going to do some entertaining.
On Thursday I had stopped by 'Double D Meats' and bought a pork shoulder.  I also looked at their BBQ sauce selection.  3 aisles of BBQ sauce.  And another one just of rubs.  Oh my.  I  bought 4 different BBQ sauces with different flavor profiles.   When we left Saturday morning, the pork shoulder was coated with spices, then brazed in hot oil and put it in the slow cooker.  For 8 hours.

As the meat was approaching its final hour of cooking, the boat smelled wonderful.  It was quiet as Leigh began laying out the appetizers.  Before long we had 14 or so people aboard swapping stories, renewing acquaintances in some cases, meeting new friends in other cases.  We had a good time.  With appetizers exhausted, the other crews returned to their boats for dinner and Leigh, Jill, Bobby and myself explored how slow cooked pulled pork tasted with a variety of BBQ sauces.  Much fun and great conversation.
