NICE WEEKEND

A nice weekend on the island.  Nothing special, but at the same time it’s all special.

The mountain range behind Vancouver shines in the morning.

Someday I'll get a shot of an Eagle that's in focus.  But not today.

Kuper on the beach

Shortly after sunrise

The 'Clifford A Barnes', a University of Washington research boat, was doing some work out font.  One of the goals of this trip focused on Sea Stars -- the UW has been trying to better understand the wasting disease that has wiped out great swaths of starfish.  For more of what they are doing, click here.

Hard hats on the aft deck get ready to drop a drag net.

Net down, scraping up what's on the bottom.
Three shots of Mt Baker.
Midday sail

Just before sunset, light shining on Baker and the opposing shore

Less on the shore but Baker still catches the receding light

Like an ill fitting lid, Sunday's cloud cover didn't quite go to the horizon
 Successive shots of the Sunrise....

We watched the Seahawks and groaned as the time wound down and it appeared certain the Vikings would pull off a game winning, seemingly easy field goal.  Seemed like our last game of the season...until the kick went wide and the Hawks won.  Doug Baldwin's tweet summed it up.  "I don't believe in luck.  But I don't know what else to call it".

Friday Harbor slips away in the ferry's wake

A nice, very nice, weekend....
